Twitter

We have created a Twitter account for the University! OK so what? Personally i am not sure how useful Twitter is but of course the key to anything is content. We have set up the PR office to update the Twitter as they should be the people in the know, more than the people in the web team dungeon anyway. An example of an organisation's Twitter is the Guardian's Comment Is Free one, which has links to new topics on their website, a similar thing could be done on the BCU Twitter linking to the latest news stories... perhaps. Another example is this idiot's Twitter.

I have added a Twitter feed to this blog which you should be able to see on the right hand side.

I'm interested to see BCU (I still can't get used to saying that instead of UCE) trying to adopt the use of Twitter.

We've had many discussions here about Twitter going mainstream and I think Universities seem to be the tipping point for a lot of social media apps.

Students start to use the app at Uni and then carry on its use after they graduate and spread the idea to work colleagues. I believe Facebook took off in this way.

I wrote a post about social media apps going mainstream with a definite tilt on Twitter.

It would be interesting if the marketing use of Twitter might raise its profile in BCU and maybe spawn other applications for its use.

Keep us updated!

Sssh! - don't let anyone hear you say BCU! - officially we are Birmingham City University! One of the main reasons for the change of name is that "University of Central England" could be anywhere in a 50 mile radius of Birmingham; at least our new name firmly pins us down to being here in Brum.

And it's nice to be seen as a champion of new social media apps! Part of our job is to definitely evaluate all of the various offerings out there and weed out those that are genuienly useful so we can make recomendations to the rest of the Uni. Of course - everyone else just sees this as us surfing for fun, but it's all got a serious point!

I have to say I am initially skeptical about Twitter - but if it proves popular then we will gleefully add it to our armoury.

Everybody is familiar to the Twitter but some people don't understand marketing using Twitter. So, "marketontwitr" is one of the additive tool of twitter and can be found on google or web. It’s easy to use.
